Pole shows how ridiculous bureaucracy can be..

No, it's not April 1st and this picture is not fake. Unbelievably, this disaster waiting to happen was left in situ in Co. Laois for nearly two years because of an argument between the ESB and Laois Co. Council. When The Star took these pictures and showed them to the AA it was removed in 24 hours.

Ireland's Road Deaths coming down....

There were 336 road deaths in Ireland in 2007, a fall of 8% on the figures for 2006. While this obviously represents progress there are still some way behind the best-practice countries internationally. The best performing countries internationally are Sweden, the UK and the Netherlands, and Irish casualty figures need to fall by a further 50% to match their performance.

Extending the LUAS

The extension from Sandyford to Cherrywood is underway, but Metro North and the link between the Red & Green lines is still a long way off.

The route for the city centre link up of the Red and Green Luas lines (Line BX) has been decided but construction is still a long way away. In fact, the Metro North line which will run from the city centre to Sword via Dublin Airport will be completed before construction of the BX line begins in 2013.

Women much more likely to ask for a wheel change
AA Ireland has released a detailed analysis of the almost 160,000 rescue call outs that the motoring organisation attended to in 2007. The data shows that women are much more likely to ask for a wheel to be changed than men, but when it comes to mistakes with fuel - or to having accidents - men seem to be the riskier sex.

Romantic Ireland is alive and well
21st Century Irish couples are still in love with the traditional romantic break, but while she's the one who chooses the destination and makes the booking, he is the one who pays the bill.

Manor House Hotels & Irish Country Hotels, Ireland's largest group of independently owned hotels, has released the results of a survey of its 67 properties carries out in association with the AA.
