PAY FOR ON-STREET PARKING BY PHONE
Dublin City Council, as well as Cork and Limerick city councils have introduced a new method of payment for parking over the phone. This means that that there is no longer the need to worry about having enough coins to pay for parking. How does it work?
Parking Tag is the innovative new way to pay for parking across Dublin City. Each Parking Tag customer is issued with a uniquely bar coded tag. The tag is displayed on their vehicle’s front windscreen and when customers park in a designated Dublin City pay & display parking space, they simply pay for parking by mobile phone. The appropriate amount will be deducted from customers Parking Tag account and Dublin City enforcement officials carry handheld units that they use to scan parking tags and confirm if a valid parking fee has been paid for.

Customers can register for parking tag online (www.parkingtag.ie) using debit/credit card or, alternatively choose the cash only ‘pay as you go’ option by purchasing a Parking Tag available in a small number of select city centre retail convenience stores. Customers who buy parking tags in retail outlets will be able to top-up their accounts up on Payzone terminals by simply scanning a barcode coded key ring which they receive with the retail parking tag pack. There is €5 free credit for all new accounts registered.
Parkmagic is a service provided by Cork and Limerick city councils which also allows motorists to pay for parking over the phone. Using this alternative payment mechanism registered users call the Cork or Limerick City free phone to pay for parking. The service is free to join, all new users get €5 worth of free parking, registration takes about 30 seconds and once you fix the barcode sticker to your car windscreen you are then ready to park. Parking in Limerick and Cork is then monitored in a similar way to Dublin with Parking Officials checking the barcoded stickers to assure the correct charge has been paid.
